Terms of Use

The simple rules for using our website and Playbooks, and who owns what.

Last updated 16 October 2026

1. About these terms

These terms apply when you use this website or buy, download or read a Playbook from The Rugby Playbook (“we”, “us”). By using the site you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.

Our Privacy Policy and Refund Policy are part of these terms.

2. Who owns what

All Playbooks and characters are the products of The Rugby Playbook. The books, stories, characters, names, illustrations, diagrams, logos, layouts and website content are original to us and owned by us. This includes every character you meet on this site, such as Jake, Zara, Mia, Leo, Riley, Kai and the coaches and players of Tidewater and Ironsand Bay.

You may not copy, change, sell, publish or use them in anything of your own without our written permission, except as the licence below allows.

The laws of rugby are published by World Rugby. We quote and explain them to help young players understand the game, and they remain World Rugby’s. We are an independent publisher. We are not connected with, or endorsed by, any rugby union, club, team, player or competition.

3. What you can do with a Playbook

When you buy or download a Playbook, we give you a personal licence to use it. You can:

  • read it on your own devices and keep a copy;
  • read it with your child or children, and print pages for your own household to use.

You must not:

  • share, sell, rent, upload or post the file, or links to it, so that other people can get it without buying;
  • copy it, or any part of it, into another book, product or service;
  • remove our names, logos or copyright notices.

Coaches, clubs and schools who want to use Playbooks with a team or class need a team licence. Please ask us about one. Free Starter Playbooks have the same rules unless they say otherwise.

4. Safety and how to use the Playbooks

Rugby is a contact sport and any sport carries a risk of injury. Our Playbooks are a learning aid. They are not a replacement for qualified coaching, medical advice or adult supervision.

Junior rugby rules vary by country, age and club. Always follow the rules and safety guidance of your own club or union, and make sure a grown-up is watching when children practise. You are responsible for choosing activities that suit your child and the place you are in.

5. Accounts

You must be 18 or over to create an account or buy a Playbook. Children can enjoy the Playbooks with a grown-up.

Give us accurate details and keep your password private. You are responsible for what happens on your account. Tell us straight away if you think someone else has used it.

6. Buying and downloading

Playbooks are digital files. Nothing is posted to you. The price shown at checkout, before you pay, is the price you pay. Your Playbooks are available in your account so you can download them again.

Refunds are covered in our Refund Policy.

7. Using the website

Please use the site fairly. Do not:

  • try to get into accounts, files or systems that are not yours;
  • copy large parts of the site automatically;
  • upload anything harmful, or do anything that could damage or slow the site.

We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms.

8. Our responsibility

We work hard to keep our Playbooks accurate and the site running, but we cannot promise it will always be available or free of errors.

Nothing in these terms limits your rights under New Zealand consumer law, including the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 and the Fair Trading Act 1986. Apart from those rights, and as far as the law allows, we are not responsible for indirect or knock-on losses, or for injuries that happen when people play rugby.

9. Changes and the law

We may update these terms. The date at the top shows when they last changed, and using the site after a change means you accept it.

These terms are governed by New Zealand law, and New Zealand courts can decide any dispute.
